Description

RAMBUTAN FEATURES
Covered on the outside with small soft tips, the rambutan resembles a small hedgehog. From its form derives the Malay name, rambout, which means “hair”; it is also known as “the hairy litchi”. The rambutans have a diameter of about 5 cm and are covered by a fragile and hairy skin that is easily opened to access the pulp. The skin color varies from red to yellowish brown. The whitish pulp is similar in structure to the lychee. The pulp surrounds a single inedible almond-shaped seed. The flavor of rambutan varies from sweet, delicate and fragrant to a little acid, depending on the variety. Its scent is less pronounced than that of litchi.

RAMBUTAN ORIGIN
Originally from Malaysia, rambutan grows in clusters on a small evergreen tree. Similar to litchi and longan, it grows widely in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia and Thailand. There are over 50 varieties of this fruit.
