PLANTAINS FEATURES
Plantains also known as “Cooking banana” is a staple food in many populations, it is cultivated mainly in Africa but also in India, in Malaysia and in Central and South America. The plane tree is 25 to 40 cm long; the green skin is thicker than that of the banana and the pulp is firmer and not so sweet. While the fruit ripens, the peel tends to change the color to yellow and then to blacken.
PLANTAINS ORIGIN
Originally from the area that includes the Philippines, Indonesia and northern Australia: from these places it has spread to the tropical world, to Central and South America and to equatorial Africa. Uganda is currently the largest producer of plane trees in the world.
