Melon belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. A climbing plant, it produces sweet and fragrant fruits. The melon has a hard, fairly smooth rind with an intense yellow color when mature, the pulp rich in seeds in the central part, has a white-yellowish color, very fleshy and rich in juice.
Melon, native from Africa, was widely spread during the Roman Empire. Widely cultivated in South America, the melon marketed in the counter-season belongs to the family of winter melons, particularly durable in conservation.
